The Rambo® 1680D Turnout 250g Vari-Layer is the ultimate waterproof turnout, featuring an impressive 1680D Ballistic Nylon waterproof and breathable outer.

Designed for warmth without bulk, our Vari-Layer technology integrates 250g of thermobonded fiberfill to provide maximum heat retention with minimal weight. Inside, the shine-enhancing 210T polyester lining ensures a comfortable feel against your horse’s coat.

This blanket is liner compatible, allowing you to customize warmth levels throughout the season. The Surefit Neck Design with V-Front Closure and leg arches enhance your horse’s freedom of movement, ensuring unrestricted comfort.

Additional details include reflective strips for increased visibility, a waterproof tail flap for added protection, a wipe-clean tail cord, three crossed webbing surcingles with the Rambo® Safety Surcingle System for a secure fit, a Velcro sandwich hood attachment for optional hood compatibility, and leg strap compatibility for additional stability. The anti-static, anti-bacterial lining enhances both the comfort and hygiene of the blanket.

  • Rambo Safety Surcingles: Rambo Plastic Loops can withstand 100kg of pressure but release in the event of an emergency, giving extra protection for your horse and preventing serious injuries & damage to the blanket. Easily & quickly replace the broken loop.

  • Liner Compatible: Detachable liners (available separately) in a variety of weights can be easily attached via built-in liner loops, allowing you to adapt your rug's weight depending on the weather and your horses needs.
  • Secure Fit Without Leg Straps: Horseware tail strap combined with the positioning of darts at the rear of the blanket allow for a secure fit without the use of leg straps.
  • Wipe Clean Tail Cord: An elasticated tail cord is covered in PVC for easy cleaning. It is also designed to break under extreme pressure, offering safety should your horse get caught. Easily replaced.
  • Tail Flap: Tail protection, that avoids delicate tail hair being rubbed.

This is a MEDIUM WEIGHT TURNOUT, providing reliable warmth and waterproof protection for chilly days and nights. Ideal for cooler temperatures, it helps maintain your horse’s comfort without excessive bulk. Perfect for fall, winter, and early spring weather.

Turnouts, blankets, and sheets serve various purposes. Turnouts provide waterproof insulation, helping horses stay dry and warm. Stable blankets, while not waterproof, offer warmth and insulation indoors. Other sheets—such as fly sheets, coolers, competition sheets, and scrims—are designed for specific functions, from insect protection to moisture-wicking.

CARE

We recommend having all products PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED.

If washing product yourself, please follow these recommendations.

Washing Instructions

  • Remove excess dirt, mud and hair.
  • Remove all detergent build up from your detergent dispenser.
  • Ensure all velcro is closed and clips/straps are attached prior to washing.
  • Place your blanket in a mesh bag to contain all straps and buckles protecting them.
  • Machine wash at 30º C/85º F (cold) on a gentle or delicate cycle using mild soap or a blanket cleaning wash. (Always follow the manufacturer's instructions if using a blanket cleaning wash.)
  • Line dry / air dry only away from a heat source.
  • Do NOT use detergents or fabric conditioners as you risk compromising the waterproof and/or breathable coating.
  • Do NOT bleach.
  • Do NOT tumble dry.
  • Do NOT Iron.
  • For best results, re-proof your blanket with a blanket proofer to add durable water repellency and revitalize breathability. (Always follow the manufacturer's proofing instructions.)

Storage Instructions

  • Once dry, fold neatly into a breathable storage bag.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from any moisture or damp areas, avoiding excessive heat and UV exposure.
  • Your original packaging can be used as an excellent bag for multiple purposes, such as an equestrian gear bag or off-season storage.

Size & Fit

Size

Using a soft measuring tape, measure from A (the center point of the chest), across the widest point of the shoulder and to B (the center point of your horse’s rear, under the tail). Ensure your measuring tape is level and taut, which is easiest with two people. This measurement (in inches) is your horse’s "True Size."

Fit Recommendation

Our Advice: This product runs SLIGHTLY LARGE. Rambo (by Horseware) blankets and sheets typically run a bit larger than other brands. Most likely this product will still fit as measured, but if you are between sizes we recommend sizing down.

Some products run large and others small, which is why we offer our own fit recommendation. Bear in mind that every horse is different and that your measurement is a guide only. We carry many different styles to suit all shapes and sizes.

When trying on a product for fit, we encourage you to first put a clean sheet on your animal and then try the new item over the clean sheet.
