Horseware's ultimate Rambo 1680D Plus Turnout Blanket (Vari-Layer 450g Heavy + Hood) is now even more robust! Less weight with greater protection against the elements!

This turnout was made for harsh winter weather, boasting a 1680D Ballistic Nylon waterproof and breathable outer, 120% stronger than our standard 1000D Ballistic Nylon. Sandwiched in Horseware's Vari-Layer design between the embossed anti-static, anti-bacterial shine-enhancing layer and tough outer is 450g of Thermobonded fiberfill for ultimate warmth minus the bulk and weight. Horseware's Surefit Neck Design with V-Front Closure and our leg arches offer extended freedom of movement around the chest and shoulder area so your horse can graze and move at liberty in total comfort. Other features include a contoured detachable hood for greater blanketing options, integrated liner loops for full compatibility with our extensive liner collection, reflective strips, wipe clean tail cord, and three crossed removable surcingle straps integrating the Rambo Safety Surcingle System.

  • 3 Crossed Surcingles: Three adjustable crossed surcingles for a secure fit that prevents slipping and maximum belly coverage. Surcingles placed at specific angles & heights for optimum fit.
  • Rambo Safety Surcingles: Rambo Plastic Loops can withstand 100kg of pressure but release in the event of an emergency, giving extra protection for your horse and preventing serious injuries & damage to the blanket. Easily & quickly replace the broken loop.
  • Detachable Neck Cover: This blanket has a standard neck line and INCLUDES a detachable neck cover, adapting to suit your horse and weather conditions.
  • Velcro Sandwich Closure: Hood attachments via Horseware's Velcro Sandwich Closure.

  • Dual Leg Arches: Horseware's unique design allows for freedom of movement with a curve in the lower hem of the blanket without the addition of extra fabric or a concentrated pressure point. The blanket stays secure under belly & offers additional coverage. Includes both front & rear leg arch.
  • Liner Compatible: Detachable liners (available separately) in a variety of weights can be easily attached via built-in liner loops, allowing you to adapt your rug's weight depending on the weather and your horses needs.
  • Secure Fit Without Leg Straps: Horseware tail strap combined with the positioning of darts at the rear of the blanket allow for a secure fit without the use of leg straps.
  • Wipe Clean Tail Cord: An elasticated tail cord is covered in PVC for easy cleaning. It is also designed to break under extreme pressure, offering safety should your horse get caught. Easily replaced.
  • Tail Flap: Tail protection, that avoids delicate tail hair being rubbed.

USE

This is a HEAVY WEIGHT TURNOUT, designed to provide maximum warmth and protection in cold winter conditions. With superior insulation and a waterproof outer layer, it keeps your horse cozy, dry, and comfortable even in harsh weather.

Turnouts, blankets, and sheets serve various purposes. Turnouts provide waterproof insulation, helping horses stay dry and warm. Stable blankets, while not waterproof, offer warmth and insulation indoors. Other sheets—such as fly sheets, coolers, competition sheets, and scrims—are designed for specific functions, from insect protection to moisture-wicking.

Weather conditions can change quickly, so always check to ensure your horse is properly outfitted and comfortable.

CARE

We recommend having all products PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED.

If washing product yourself, please follow these recommendations.

Washing Instructions

  • Remove excess dirt, mud and hair.
  • Remove all detergent build up from your detergent dispenser.
  • Ensure all velcro is closed and clips/straps are attached prior to washing.
  • Place your blanket in a mesh bag to contain all straps and buckles protecting them.
  • Machine wash at 30º C/85º F (cold) on a gentle or delicate cycle using mild soap or a blanket cleaning wash. (Always follow the manufacturer's instructions if using a blanket cleaning wash.)
  • Line dry / air dry only away from a heat source.
  • Do NOT use detergents or fabric conditioners as you risk compromising the waterproof and/or breathable coating.
  • Do NOT bleach.
  • Do NOT tumble dry.
  • Do NOT Iron.
  • For best results, re-proof your blanket with a blanket proofer to add durable water repellency and revitalize breathability. (Always follow the manufacturer's proofing instructions.)

Storage Instructions

  • Once dry, fold neatly into a breathable storage bag.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from any moisture or damp areas, avoiding excessive heat and UV exposure.
  • Your original packaging can be used as an excellent bag for multiple purposes, such as an equestrian gear bag or off-season storage.

Size & Fit

Size

Using a soft measuring tape, measure from A (the center point of the chest), across the widest point of the shoulder and to B (the center point of your horse’s rear, under the tail). Ensure your measuring tape is level and taut, which is easiest with two people. This measurement (in inches) is your horse’s "True Size."

Fit Recommendation

Our Advice: This product runs SLIGHTLY LARGE. Rambo (by Horseware) blankets and sheets typically run a bit larger than other brands. Most likely this product will still fit as measured, but if you are between sizes we recommend sizing down.

Some products run large and others small, which is why we offer our own fit recommendation. Bear in mind that every horse is different and that your measurement is a guide only. We carry many different styles to suit all shapes and sizes.

Worth the money

Warm, dry and secure

Fit perfect from the measurement directions. Love that it is warm without being heavy. triple surcingles, v opening and double velcro make sure it stays secure while still easy and quick to get on/off. Customer service at Performance Horse Blankets saved me $400 on my overall purchase through a simple suggestion. Shipping went out the day I ordered and arrived quickly. I will buy from you'all again for sure!

Excellent Quality & fast shipping

I will only buy blankets from performance horse blankets; great pricing and service. I’ve bought quite a few now; rewards program helps with coupons. Customer service answers any and all questions. I love my Vari-Layer Rambo Heavy with Neck attachment; super high quality and keeps my OTTB nice and toasty as she has hardly any hair! She’s been very happy. Sizing is true to size; neck cover is well insulated and fits great too. I have the wug type for my WB gelding, works great, but I love this blanket for my OTTB as I can still add the layering system and covers her whole neck... yes she’s been known to wear 500 grams or more! Great blanket and well constructed, highly recommend. Worth the investment
