How To Wash a Horse Blanket

Washing a horse blanket is an essential part of its maintenance to keep it clean and in good condition.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to wash a horse blanket:

  1. Shake off any excess dirt or debris from the blanket.

  2. Use a stiff brush to remove any dried mud or hair that may be stuck to the blanket.

  3. If the blanket is heavily soiled, pre-treat any stains with a horse blanket cleaning solution or a mild detergent.

  4. Place the blanket in a washing machine that is large enough to accommodate it. Make sure to remove any detachable straps or accessories before washing.

  5. Use a gentle, non-detergent soap or horse blanket wash to wash the blanket. Avoid using regular laundry detergent, fabric softener, or bleach as these can damage the blanket's material.

  6. Set the washing machine to a gentle cycle, and use cold water to prevent the blanket from shrinking or losing its shape.

  7. After the wash cycle is complete, run a rinse cycle to ensure that all soap has been removed from the blanket.

  8. Hang the blanket on a clothesline or lay it flat to air dry. Avoid using a dryer as the high heat can damage the blanket's material.

  9. Once the blanket is dry, reattach any detachable straps or accessories.

  10. Store the clean, dry blanket in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight or moisture until you need to use it again.

Regular washing and maintenance will help to prolong the life of your horse blanket and ensure that it remains clean, comfortable, and functional for your horse.
